Hey everyone, over the next couple of days I'm going to be preparing for a feature demonstration on the opening night of my local art show. I find demonstrations are a great way to interact with the public, something that sadly doesn't happen for many artists.
It seems like most of us shy away from the spotlight whereas I'm comfortable to put myself out there. It's the best way to get exposure and gain a following in the community.

The show I'm at on Friday night has never had a demonstrator before so we're going to break some new ground with me working on the main stage of a large hall while people mill around and look at the works for sale. We've also initiated a silent auction as well, giving us a chance to create some extra excitement by letting people name the price they'd be happy to pay for the work as I'm doing it.

I'm really excited and curious how the auction goes considering numbers for the show were down last year.

A quick report on the demo I had to do: I managed to complete the scene (half sheet colourfix) in just over 2 hours, the opening night had a record number of people through, plenty of people took my business cards and I picked up a highly commended on the night. The silent auction worked, raising a few hundred dollars for the show and I finished the weekend with the People's choice award for my entry "Bathtime". All in all a very good result. Sales for the show were significantly up on last year which was another bonus.

I wonder whether the cubs will have to deal with the same issues as Bathtime did... somehow I don't think they will. My sister saw them last night for the first time and said it was flat out the best piece she's seen from me yet. That spoke volumes for me.
