Hey guys, here is the second piece in my current chimp series. This one is going to be a full sheet in pastel (about 650mm x 470mm). This is the rough layout for the piece, done using a white pastel pencil and charcoal.
I hope to have an update on this one over the next couple of days as I work on it along side a few other projects.

It's just downright ludicrous how you can churn these out and still work fulltime and still be a parent and husband and still get things like UA off the ground and still get the chimp thing going with you and me.

Did a bit more work on this one today in between numerous emails and admin work. I'm really pleased with the way the ear has come up and the hair texture is starting to get there.
Over the next couple of days I'll continue to work over the head before moving on to the background and arm.

Thanks Mike. I'm looking at using the soft greens in the background of all the works in this series. They'll all be framed in warm timber frames to bring out the eyes and I'm thinking the mats will be a deeper muted green.

Got a little further tonight. At this point I'm concentrating on the larger forms of the face without getting into the details. The refinement of the eye has completely changed the feel of the piece now.
Tomorrow night I'm hoping to get stuck into all the wrinkles before I move on to the arm.

Tonight I got the top part of the head done. Now we're getting somewhere! Finally having the eyes in place I can get the flow happening to see this through to completion. I'm guessing Sunday at this stage (I'm also working on a series of beach scenes for an upcoming show...).

Tonight I completed work on his head. Now I just need to work on the arm and that hand to see this to completion. I'm amazed how much of a difference tonight's session has made to the work.

We're getting closer now. I've spent about an hour today laying in all the textures in his arm and running the finer hairs across. The two fingers offer some form in that area now and the finished background is helping the arm lift out from the paper surface.
